"Bunts Premier League 2009" organised by Youth wing on 30th May

After the great success of Aakanksha 2008 and the Blood Donation Camp, it was time for some play in Youth Wing. So, we decided to host our annual sports event "The Bunts Premier League" cricket tournament on 31st May, 2009 at Gaavdevi ground, Vashi. The tournament was jointly organised by Bunts Sangha Youth Wing and the Bunts Navi Mumbai Regional body.

Just like the name, the tournament format was also similar to the Indian Premier League. 8 Bunts Sangha regional teams were called to battle against each other for the title. The 8 regional teams were Andheri-Bandra Royals, Jogeshwari-Dahisar Chargers, Sion-Colaba Super Kings (City region), Kalyan-Bhiwandi Kings XI, Mira Bhayander Riders, Vasai-Dahanu Challengers, Navi Mumbai Indians and the Dombivli Dare Devils

It was a knock-out tournament with the loosing team not getting a second chance to play. All the matches were 6 overs per side match, with the initial 2 overs as Powerplay, where only 3 fielders were allowed outside the inner circle. Out of the 8 teams, the four teams which made to the semi-finals were Jogeshwari-Dahisar Chargers, Mira Bhayander Riders, Navi Mumbai Indians and Dombivli Dare Devils.

The final match was between the host Navi Mumbai and Mira road. Mira road were the first to bat in the match and they lost some important wickets early in the innings, and could only manage to reach 35 runs in their 6 overs. The reply from the Navi Mumbai team was quite solid and they chased the total comfortably within 5 overs, finishing their chase with a six.

So, Navi Mumbai became the champions of the 2009 season of Bunts Premier League. Aditya Shetty from the Mira Bhayander team was named as the "Man of the tournament" for his blistering strokeplay throughout the tournament with some huge sixes.

Bunts Sangha President Mr.Aikala Harish Shetty, along with his entire team was present at the ground to felicitate the winners.

We would like to thank a few people for their help and support, without whom, this event would not have been possible. Mr. Santosh Shetty, Mr. Bhaskar Shetty, CA Shankar Shetty, Mr. Harish Vasu Shetty, Mr. Anni Shetty, Mr. Jaya A Shetty, Mr. Morya and the entire Navi Mumbai regional committee.

A big hand for the Youth Wing Managing Committee, Gautam Shetty - Chairman, Arvin Shetty - Vice Chairman, Reshma Shetty - Secretary, Prasanna Shetty - Treasurer, Vijeeth Shetty - Joint. Secretary, Ritesh Shetty - Joint. Treasurer.

This is just the beginning. We have a lot of events lined up for this year and for the coming years too. Our Annual Event Aakanksha's auditions will be held in November this year. We will start rolling out the entry forms from the next issue of Buntaravani.

About Our Chief Guest for Aakanksha 08-09 Dr.Anuj Saxena

anuj saxena in youth wing show

Aakanksha 08-09 was a super hit show on December 27th, 2008, Read the post below this post for a detailed report on Aakanksha or click here. The show would not have been possible without the support of our Sponsorers, Well-Wishers, Judges and Our Chief Guest for that evening, Dr. Anuj Saxena.

To talk about Anuj here, is gonna be a difficult task for me, as i really dont know where to begin from. Dr.Anuj Saxena is a well known face in the film industry, Tv industry and in the corporate world as the MD Elder health care. Anuj is very very down to earth person, and i would like to thank him on behalf of Youth wing, Bunts Sangha for taking time from his jam-packed Schedule to be present at the show.

Anuj started his TV presence with the Hit series Kkusum, in which he played the role of Abhay (Kkusum's husband). Anuj has been busy with his venture Maverick Productions after Kkusum, and with Elder Health care. He was the brand ambassador for the product Fair One for men. He's also starring in a movie as the lead role.

Anuj have been busy with his production house Maverick Productions Pvt. Ltd. for the launch of his new movie Aloo Chaat. Aloo Chat stars Aftaab Shivdasani and Aamna Sharif in the lead roles. Robby Grewal is the director for this movie. ALOO CHAAT is based on a terrific family-comedy script and the film's story has all the elements of a universal appeal. Aloo Chaat is shot in Mumbai and Delhi.

Aakanksha chief guest anuj saxena movie aloo chaat

Aloo Chaat is all set to hit the theatres on 27th Feb, 2009 and if we go by the predictions of the film industry khabaris, Aloo Chaat is gonna be a Paisa Vasool movie.

Another Project Anuj is busy with is the movie "Dulha Mil gaya" which stars Fardeen Khan and Sushmita Sen. Shahrukh khan (my fav) is doing a special appearance in this movie. But, i guess that special appearance can be good enough to make this movie a hit. Sources say that there are plans to host worldwide premiers for DULHA MIL GAYA. The premiers are being planned for not just India but also UK and Trinidad and Tobago (where a major portion of the film has been shot).

Anuj will be also seen as an lead actor in Jagmohan Chandra's new movie which will be ready for release around June this year.

So, that was an update on our Aakanksha 08-09 Chief Guest for Dr. Anuj Saxena.

AaKanksha - Mr & Ms Bunt 08-09 in Words

Fun, Frolic, Fashion and much more………well, we are talking of AAKANKSHA 2008 – 09 which was held on December 27, 08 in Bunts Sangha Auditorium, Kurla. This grand event is organized each year by the youth wing.

The gala evening commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Guest of Honour, our Bunts Sangha Committee Members & the Youth wing committee members. This was followed by a heart rendering AV by Samit Shetty, featuring the recent terror attacks of 26 / 11. However with a quick change in the mood, began the highlight of the evening – The Mr. and Ms. Bunt contest, where eight young girls and guys would battle it out amongst themselves for the top honour. This contest was judged by Dr Sarita Shetty, Mr. Vineet Shetty, Mr Pratap Shetty & Mr. Prakash Shetty . The Chief guest for the evening was Actor, Producer and Entrepreneur Dr. Anuj Saxena.

The contest kick started with the girls ravishing in rich kanjivaram sarees and boys attired in the traditional mundus for the introduction round. This was followed by the sizzling funk junk round in which all contestants sported their best western outfits.

And if that was not enough, there was a scintillating dance performance by the members of the youth wing on foot tapping Bollywood numbers. But the icing on the cake was the retro style dance performance depicting yester year’s actors and actresses which left the crowd thoroughly mesmerized.

The last and the deciding round for the contestants was the Q & A round, where 5 of the 8 contestants were shortlisted.

The spectacular show finally came to an end with the winners of the contest being announced. Ms. Avantika Shetty and Mr. Dev Shetty were crowned the Ms. Bunt and Mr. Bunt of 2008 -09 respectively.

Santosh Bhandary was the 1st runner up and Preetam Shetty was the 2nd runner up for the Mr. Bunt title, similarly Trupti Shetty was the 1st runner up and Sushma Shetty was the 2nd runner up for the Ms. Bunt title.

It was an evening to reckon – with over 1000 enthusiastic audience (largest crowd till date), exciting performances and an enthralling fashion show. People can’t seem to wait for the next year now.
